As the vocational rehabilitation field expands to include employment services with youth, we as professionals are challenged to stretch our knowledge, skills and attitudes in a new direction. When we are providing our best services, ethics plays a part in our service design and decision making. Join this session to explore the nuances of planning and partnering with families while balancing youth autonomy, the ethics of relationship building with youth and the intersections of culture and disability that influences the process. Participants will have the opportunity to explore several foundational codes of ethics and practice including: CRCC Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors, APSE Ethical Guidelines and CIRRIE’s Cultural Brokering Guide.
As a result of this webinar participants will be able to:
- Apply the CRCC Ethics Code and APSE Ethical Guidelines and CIRRIE Guide to Cultural Brokering to supporting youth in transition seeking employment services
- Understand how ethics are involved in key support areas when serving youth
- Engage families in meaningful futures planning as a partner with their transition age student/ youth
- Explore the ethical considerations present when supporting authentic youth engagement, person centered planning and autonomy
- Negotiate the intersectionality of culture, family dynamics and the role of disability services in their work
- Identify possible ethical dilemmas that may occur when supporting youth
- Apply the Supported Decision-Making Model (Corey and Corey) to plan for meaningful outcomes and positive experiences for youth and their families
